After eight years of writing, rewriting,
editing, and proofreading my first novel, The Awakening, I
thought the hardest part of the journey was behind me. Little did I know,
finishing the manuscript was just the beginning.
Turns out, if you want to get published
these days, you need something called ‘an online presence.’ That’s
right, before anyone reads a word of your carefully crafted story, they
apparently want to see your selfies, scroll through your hashtags, and marvel
at your ability to come up with witty 280-character tweets. And here I thought
hashtags were just fancy pound signs.
So here I am, venturing into the world of
blogs, social media, and whatever else the internet throws my way. Don’t get me
wrong, I’m determined to give it my best shot. But let’s just say this is not
exactly my natural habitat. After years as a healthcare executive, I like to
think I’ve got some problem-solving skills, but no amount of strategy prepared
me for staring at a blank “Insert Header Image Here” box for twenty minutes.
(Spoiler: I still haven’t figured out the right dimensions.)
And yet, here we are. I’m putting one
virtual foot in front of the other, learning the ropes of this strange new
world, all in the hope that The Awakening will find its
audience—readers who will resonate with its themes of faith, family, and
transformation. If this means learning how to “engage” online or navigating a
blog dashboard that seems determined to confuse me, then so be it. After all, I
didn’t spend eight years writing just to let a little thing like technology
stand in my way.
So, dear reader, consider this blog my
first step into the unknown. If you’re here, reading this, that means one
thing—I didn’t accidentally delete the post. Progress!
